About The Position

The faculty member shall be responsible for the coordination of library services and/or teaching assigned classes, if assigned, under the supervision of the area dean. This role involves helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content, assessing student learning outcomes, and maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field. The position requires continuing professional development, utilizing current technology, and maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics. Responsibilities also include assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review, serving on college committees, participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities, and assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean. The faculty member must demonstrate a strong commitment to equity-minded practices, acknowledging diverse student backgrounds and providing inclusive, culturally responsive instruction and services. The department focuses on information literacy instruction in various modalities, providing research help, offering diverse materials, marketing library services, and assessing programs to support student success and equity.

Requirements

  • Master's in library science, library and information science; OR the equivalent
  • All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by time of hire
  • Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles
  • Successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment

  • Degree titles must match the stated qualifications exactly (word-for-word)
  • If the degree title differs, or if it contains added, missing, or rearranged words, applicants must submit a completed Equivalency Determination Request Form
  • Previously granted equivalency in the discipline applying for must be attached for verification
  • Transcripts must be from an accredited U.S. institution or approved foreign evaluation agency
  • Foreign transcripts are not accepted
  • For coursework and degrees completed outside the U.S., upload a foreign transcript evaluation issued by an AICE or NACES member agency
  • If more than one degree is required, separate transcripts for each degree must be included
  • Transcripts must clearly identify the institution's name, degree title, major and/or certifications
  • Transcripts must indicate whether each degree is completed (confer date) or in progress
  • Only official or unofficial transcripts are accepted to verify education
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S.
  • Only information listed on the application and transcripts will be used to verify Minimum Qualifications

  • Maintaining up-to-date instructional materials for print and online library resources
  • Selecting materials in subject areas for print, media, and digital collections
  • Coordinating instructional programs and services
  • Coordinating circulation policy and procedures
  • Coordinating collection management including acquisitions, maintenance, and weeding
  • Coordinating management of the physical library space
  • Coordinating marketing and outreach of library services
  • Coordinating textbook access through course reserves and open educational resources
  • Coordinating user experience of library resources
  • Coordinating research help and scheduling
  • Coordinating assessment of library programs and services
  • Supporting special programs, outreach centers and distance education students
  • Representing the library in districtwide committees and workgroups
  • Performing other duties as assigned

  • Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8).
