Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with valid school librarian/media certification from RIDE or the ability to obtain
  • Work environment and physical requirements consistent with those of a typical school environment
  • Ability to move about the classroom and building continuously throughout the workday
  • Utilize the computer (20%) of the time and other office equipment

Responsibilities

  • Teaches grade and age-appropriate reading, research and media skills in conjunction with students’ voice and choice in learning
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that consistently contain diverse content and genres throughout the academic year
  • Provides a variety of learning experiences so that students demonstrate skills and concepts learned through individual and group performance.
  • Cooperates and networks with other libraries, librarians, and agencies to provide access to resources outside the school.
  • Models’ effective strategies for developing multiple literacies.
  • Provides guidance in software and hardware evaluation.
  • Understands copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property regulations, and assists others with their understanding and observance of the same.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day
  • Provides a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom environment that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies and effective classroom management techniques.
