About The Position

We’re looking for a motivated and creative self-starter with a passion for public library service to join our team! Serving an active engaged community of 34,000 in the South Hills, our full-time Senior Services Librarian will develop a diverse range of exciting opportunities for our senior patrons, including bus trips, speakers, wellness programs, hands-on learning, senior STEM, and outreach to community partners. Additionally, librarians in this position contribute to our diverse and dynamic materials collection, provide reader’s advisory and reference, and collaborate with other librarians on library- and community-wide initiatives and large events.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of library principles of service, policies, and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of literature and materials, both print and electronic.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency with electronic information resources and software.
  • Knowledge of area specialization, especially basic tech instruction and adult programming.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and public.
  • Excellent reference and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and listening skills.
  • Must have completed a Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university.
  • Evening and weekend availability is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a broad range of creative and engaging in-person programs in the library.
  • Network, partner, and collaborate with community organizations, especially those serving seniors and older adults.
  • Seek opportunities to expand the library's services to older adults through community outreach.
  • Grow services to seniors in the community through library card initiatives, participation in senior fairs, and meeting the unique needs of this population.
  • Provide technology instruction to seniors, both in-person at the library and within a residential community setting.
  • Staff the Reference Desk several times a week.
  • Provide reader's advisory services and reference help, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Assist in the development and promotion of the library materials collection.
