About The Position

Join our team as a Librarian III or Public Services Specialist III at the Greenbelt Branch of the Prince George's County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS)! We're seeking an enthusiastic, community-focused library leader who enjoys working with people of all ages and believes libraries are vital community spaces. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and collaborative leader overseeing information services at the Greenbelt Branch. This role involves supervising staff, ensuring exceptional customer service, developing engaging programs, and providing meaningful access to library resources. The candidate should enjoy building community relationships, creating welcoming library experiences, and bringing creativity, leadership, and fresh ideas to public library service. Experience in developing engaging programs and collections for children, teens, and adults is essential. The role requires inspiring and supporting staff, fostering an inclusive environment, and demonstrating organization, adaptability, and comfort managing multiple priorities in a dynamic public library setting. The Greenbelt Branch serves residents of all ages and houses the Rexford G. Tugwell Special Collection, a unique research collection focused on city and urban planning, sociology, architecture, New Deal era American history, consumer cooperatives, and the history of Greenbelt, Maryland. This position offers the opportunity to support both everyday library users and researchers.

Requirements

  • Librarian III: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program
  • Librarian III: Maryland Professional Public Librarian Certificate (upon hire or within six (6) months of hire date)
  • Librarian III: Three (3) or more years of professional library experience
  • Public Services Specialist III: Bachelor's degree
  • Public Services Specialist III: Maryland State Library Associate Training Institute (LATI) Certificate
  • Public Services Specialist III: Five (5) years of professional library experience
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to earn 90 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every five years
  • Strong customer service, communication, and leadership skills
  • Proficiency with library reference tools, databases, and technology
  • Flexibility to substitute at other branches and participate in special projects

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team that includes a Librarian II and Library Associates, fostering a positive, collaborative workplace.
  • Oversee and evaluate staff performance, ensuring training and professional development needs are met.
  • Manage staff schedules.
  • Ensure customer and staff safety, resolve escalated customer concerns, and maintain operational equipment.
  • Deliver outstanding library services to customers of all ages, including children, teens, and adults.
  • Promote library services, events, collections, and resources throughout the community.
  • Represent the library through outreach with schools, community organizations, agencies, and local partners.
  • Ensure high quality reference, reader's advisory, and information services.
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of innovative virtual and in-person programs that respond to community interests and needs.
  • Oversee the growth, development, and maintenance of library collections, including support for the Tugwell Special Collection.
  • Manage the circulation services desk as needed.
  • Participate in systemwide initiatives, training sessions, and special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
