About The Position

We are seeking a Librarian II/Informationist II who will provide and grow our deeply embedded library services and work as an information expert alongside faculty, staff, fellows, residents, and students in the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, and the Johns Hopkins Health System. This position will be able to take advantage of a highly flexible work environment, build partnerships with user communities engaged in research, education, and clinical initiatives, and develop new services. Candidates will have an interest in and/or expertise in emerging services and technologies such as research impact analysis, scholarly profile systems, advanced teaching and learning methods, and application of AI tools. This position reports to the Associate Director of Informationist Services.

Requirements

Master’s Degree in Library Science or related field.
Two years of related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Professional experience working in an academic health sciences library.
Interest or background in librarian involvement in the evidence synthesis review process and methodologies.

Responsibilities

Assist library staff & patrons with non-routine questions through analysis of inquiry and resolution with appropriate staff.
Support a wide range of services with standard and non-standard workflows.
Resolve issues based on knowledge and experience.
Initiate the development of new workflows and/or enhancement of workflows.
Lead or actively participate in collaborative department projects, by lending expertise and analysis of issues and/or needs, and coordinates completion of assigned work.
Lead special projects as assigned and/or identifies and prioritizes projects with supervisor.
Demonstrate expertise in a specific area of library related work as listed above.
Train and mentor new librarians and staff.
Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for their department and the JH libraries and routinely lends expertise to JH libraries special interest and other collaborative groups and efforts.
Continue to develop professional relationships.
Provide specialized knowledge of how aspects of information management apply to their unit or department’s goals, processes, or workflows.
Represent JH libraries in public forums, including meetings, conferences, and collaborative initiatives.
Advance the libraries’ and university’s mission through service to the department, institution, and profession.
Actively engage in networking, professional development, and other scholarly activities.
Establish strong working relationships and communication workflows with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Work independently and collaboratively to support faculty, researchers, staff, students, and clinicians in assigned departments.
Contribute to the library’s support of research projects and expert-level reviews, including systematic reviews, by providing project consultations and participating as appropriate.
Deliver course-integrated instruction, orientations, and stand-alone workshops in both virtual and in-person covering clinical- and research-specific information resources and tools.
Knowledgeably guide and refer patrons to other library experts as needed for research data management and services, scholarly publishing, and bioinformatics topics.
Provide basic research metrics support for faculty and departments
