About The Position

The Radio-Canada Libraries and Archives department is seeking a Librarian to join its team. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to conduct research, deliver information resources, and develop and maintain key reference materials. You will also help refine controlled vocabularies — including taxonomies — in accordance with corporate standards and policies.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library and information science or equivalent.
  • One (1) or more years’ experience performing related duties.
  • Broad general knowledge.
  • Strong awareness of current events.
  • Deep familiarity with CBC/Radio-Canada programming.
  • Ability to multi-task in a multi-system environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Proficiency in conducting database searches.
  • Advanced knowledge of digital document management.
  • Strong client-service orientation.
  • Fluency in French (working language).
  • English language profile (BAA): Intermediate reading comprehension; beginner writing and speaking skills.
  • Theory test assessing general knowledge and current events awareness.
  • Interview.
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
  • A mandatory Criminal record check.
  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain tailored information products and services (e.g., biographies, themed research packs, timelines, media reviews and reference links). Propose new offerings as technology and user needs evolve, while managing online publishing and quality control.
  • Conduct in-depth research to fulfil documentation and information requests from internal clients across the organization. Select, recommend and refer the appropriate resources. Guide users through the research process.
  • Expand, update and evaluate controlled vocabularies, including thesauri and taxonomies.
  • Contribute to the growth and refinement of specialized databases (e.g., key highlights, historical timelines and public administration reviews).
  • Train clients on departmental resources and tools, advise them on applicable policies and standards, and author user guides for research tools.
  • Recommend operational standards, procedures and tools. Help draft and refine them as needed. Advise library staff and users on their interpretation and application.
  • Recommend resource acquisitions in line with collection development policies. Research, evaluate and suggest relevant information sources and storage media. Identify obsolete material for removal.
  • Draft operational reports as required.
  • Stay abreast of current events and maintain awareness of upcoming production projects to anticipate research needs.
