About The Position

The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team facilitates and advances person-centered care through evidence-based professional practice and learning strategies and programs that are designed provincially and implemented locally to enhance collaborative learning and practice. The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities. Reporting to, and in collaboration with, Manager of Library Services, the Librarian Educator provides support to core areas of library operations, specifically Education & Research support, Outreach & Training, and Access & Collections. The Librarian Educator supports Nova Scotia Health’s education and resource requirements related to patient care, information management, research and best practice. The Educator supports access to evidence-based clinical, educational, and administrative decision-making tools and relevant best practices.

Requirements

Masters of Library and Information Services required
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience with progressive responsibility in a hospital library or equivalent setting required
Familiarity with Canadian Copyright Law required
Expertise in online searching, subject analysis and critical appraisal of literature
Technical expertise in training users in new technologies
Excellent communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to present academic and technical aspects of research subject matter in group or individual settings and familiarity with plain language principles
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing development of professional knowledge and skills

Nice To Haves

Membership in the Academy of Health Professionals (AHIP) preferred or commitment to attain credential within one year of employment.
Canadian College of Health Leaders or approved equivalent credential
Experience in medical research library or academic health sciences library considered an asset
Knowledge of Library and Information Science applications in an academic healthcare research facility including PubMed, Cumulated Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PsycINFO, Cochrane Library, the National Library of Medicine classification system, Medical Subject Headings, and Springshare tools
Experience using reference management software
Strong knowledge of research methodologies and content management strategies
Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Responsibilities

Provides support to core areas of library operations, specifically Education & Research support, Outreach & Training, and Access & Collections.
Supports Nova Scotia Health’s education and resource requirements related to patient care, information management, research and best practice.
Supports access to evidence-based clinical, educational, and administrative decision-making tools and relevant best practices.
Coaches all aspects of health science library work, such as cataloguing, document delivery, acquisitions, training/orientation presentations, HTML coding, database maintenance, programming, and subject guide development and maintenance.
