About The Position

The librarian is a professional who oversees the University School’s library collection and instructional programs and provides the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school, and is an integral component of the learning and instructional program.

  • Experience working with students at elementary/middle school level.

  • Oklahoma State Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience working with library catalog systems and databases.
  • Familiarity with gifted education, differentiated instruction, and inquiry-based learning.
  • Experience in creating staff development and other professional presentations.
  • Experience working with library catalog system.
  • Database experience.

Responsibilities

  • Creates an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaboration with teaching staff.
  • Supports student success by creating lessons and programs which guide them in reaching for understanding, for exposure to diversity of viewpoints and genres, and for pleasure; using information for defined and self-defined purposes; building on prior knowledge and constructing new knowledge; embracing the world of information and all its formats; working with peers in successful collaboration for learning.
  • Supports student research projects in collaboration with classroom teaching staff.
  • Develops and maintains a collection of resources appropriate to the school’s curriculum, the learners, and the teaching styles and instructional strategies used within the school community.
  • Organizes the library collection for maximum and effective use.
  • Creates and maintains a teaching and learning environment that is inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to student learning.
  • Manages the library’s budget and resources responsibly and effectively.
  • Coordinates and holds at least one book fair each school year.
  • Maintains library catalog in conjunction with TU’s McFarlin Library system.
  • Promotes library services to students, parents, and staff.
  • Manages and oversees student use of library computers and iPads.
  • Remains current in professional practices/developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school libraries by attending conferences and reading professional materials.
  • Supports the maintenance and editing of data within the school’s LMS and SIS.
  • Oversees and assists with special projects as needed.
  • Seeks out and attends special training/education as needed for school programs.
  • Supports school communications via the school’s LMS.
  • Provides support for the school’s Extended Day and Auxiliary Programs.
  • Attends and supports the school’s public events (including those outside normal operating hours).
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned by the Director.
