About The Position

The City of Yorba Linda is seeking a Library Assistant - Substitute to help serve its patrons in a welcoming community environment where every day is a little different. As a paraprofessional member of the library team, this role involves assisting patrons with services, materials, and resources, while also supporting programs, collections, and daily operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys independent work, takes pride in organization, and values exceptional customer service. This position is an on-call position, which may include working mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. The Yorba Linda Public Library is open Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 8:00 pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 am - 5 pm. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or related field.
  • At least 6 months of experience working in a library.
  • Availability for on-call work, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and stretch.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to push and pull loaded book carts and other equipment.
  • Ability to set up and move tables, chairs, and other furnishings for programs and community events.
  • Ability to read book labels, shelving guides, and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and members of the public.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's of Library and Information Science degree is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver excellent customer service, including reader's advisory, reference help, and hands-on guidance with library tools and technology.
  • Support programming such as story times, tours, and instructional classes, as well as special projects and community outreach.
  • Help maintain the collection and operate public and staff computers for research, reserves, and daily tasks.
  • Assist with collection maintenance in assigned areas.
