About The Position

People Can Fly is seeking a Level Designer to join their team in Montreal, Canada. This role is open to candidates only from the game industry based in Canada. As a Level Designer, you will be responsible for defining and building game levels, ensuring they meet high visual quality standards while prioritizing gameplay and fun. You will collaborate closely with visual/meshing departments, designers, and coders to create engaging maps and integrate new features. The role involves full ownership from paper design through whiteboxing, scripting, iteration, debugging, optimization, and final delivery. You will also participate in Strike Team work and may occasionally onboard new hires.

Requirements

  • Typically 3+ years of professional level design experience.
  • Shipped AAA title experience.
  • Experience in level design – both practice and theory (landmarks, routes, lines of sight, combat arenas).
  • Knowledge of Maya, 3DS Max or similar 3D package.
  • Familiarity with visual scripting.
  • Experience working with bug-tracking tools, preferably JIRA.
  • Ability to process, understand and implement feedback.
  • General understanding of creative and game development processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Open-minded team player attitude.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated.
  • Proficiency in English is required for this position, as the role involves regular communication with international colleagues, partners, and stakeholders based outside of Québec.

Responsibilities

  • Define and build levels, and be prepared to repeat them intensively (testing and providing/implementing feedback).
  • Collaborate with the visual/meshing department to ensure levels are of the highest visual quality while maintaining gameplay and fun.
  • Work with designer and coder teams to create fun maps and integrate new features into built levels.
  • Take full ownership from paper design, through whitebox phase, scripting, iteration, debugging, and optimization, to game delivery.
  • Participate in the work of dedicated established Strike Teams.
  • Occasionally onboard new hires.
