About The Position

The Lending & Sales Advisor is responsible for processing incoming consumer loan applications, including HELOC’s, through various channels within our loan origination systems. Must have the ability to cross-sell appropriate loan products and effectively communicate denials in a manner that ensures compliance with all Credit Union policies and procedures. Demonstrates a highly motivated, positive, outgoing, influential personality with a strong emphasis on sales and results to ensure the Credit Union maximizes lending and sales opportunities. Consistently demonstrates the ability to think independently by effectively responding to each individual member’s unique situation. Commands a thorough knowledge of the lending process from application to closing. Demonstrates an unsurpassed commitment to exceptional service and teamwork that ensures a WOW experience for the member. Is fully knowledgeable of all credit union products and services to benefit the member and enhance the quality and depth of the member relationship. Displays confidence in presenting appropriate solutions to fit our member’s needs and can clearly and efficiently communicate, both orally and written, with members and staff at all levels. Is proficient with applicable technology. Meets all department, team, and individual goals for closing loans and selling ancillary products. Responds to questions and provides information requested by internal and external members. Builds rapport with fellow teammates and other credit union staff. Fosters a spirit of cooperation to ensure the success of the team. Performs all duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and VFCU policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Two to five years of experience in the consumer loan sales and service industry
  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • Technical aptitude to understand complex programs and applications.
  • Displays courtesy, tact, and diplomacy during personal contact with others inside and/or outside of the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, accurate and ability to adapt to change.
  • Excellent decision making and time management skills.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot problems and research capabilities of current or proposed products.
  • Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; typing; viewing a computer screen and reading.
  • Climb/descend stairs in an emergency situation.
  • Operate routine office equipment including personal computers, copy machines, mobile and landline phones, calculator and others as needed.
  • Maintain working on a computer for six to eight hours daily, on average.
  • Work extended hours if required or requested by management.
  • Regular, reliable and timely attendance.
  • Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in a climate-controlled, shared work area with minimal noise.
  • Perform job functions independently, or with limited supervision, and work effectively either on own or as part of a team.
  • Read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions.
  • Speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates with members applying for a loan from all channels to include designated branches, online, phone, etc.
  • Interviews loan applicants, gathering the required information for a loan application.
  • Explains loan options, rates, terms and any collateral requirements.
  • Gathers all required information and submits a complete loan package to the underwriter for decisioning.
  • Ensures timely follow up on all applications according to queue maintenance procedures.
  • Obtains all required information and any requested by the Underwriter.
  • Contacts member regarding the decision.
  • If loan is automatically approved, ensures that the approval is valid.
  • Processes and disburses all loan requests.
  • Ensures all loan documentation is accurate, complete and that all required signatures have been obtained on all forms.
  • Follows up with members within the required time frame regarding any documentation that must be returned to the Credit Union, especially those documents dealing with collateral such as but not limited to DMV forms, Insurance forms, etc.
  • Overcomes objections with persuasion and persistence.
  • Prioritizes work to achieve goals and meets required time frames and deadlines.
  • Every effort must be made to have loans disbursed and funded by close of business on the day the loan application is received.
  • Scrutinizes all information and documentation, contacts fraud analyst for consultation and review if there is suspicion of fraud.
  • Actively participates in and completes all ongoing required loan and sales training.
  • Knows how to access all credit union policies and procedures and understands them to ensure compliance with all internal and government rules and regulations.
  • Maintains a dependable record of attendance and timeliness.
