About The Position

A Lending Associate is a development position whereby the individual will expect to convert into a lender within 36 months. The position of a Lending Associate is responsible for reviewing financial information taken from the lending officers; making sure the loan request follows Bank guidelines; making sure that the credit request is worthy and provides summary of findings when the loan is presented for approval. The primary responsibility is for loan reviews on loans that are for $500,000 or greater or on customers whose total loan exposure is $1,000,000 or greater. Additional responsibilities will include working with lending officers and the loan processing team to gain experience and understanding of the loan process. Lending Associates will also be responsible for engaging in networking activities to begin building their personal brand in their community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field and 2-4 years of experience in the loan function and/or credit administration. Work related experience should consist of duties in a banking environment and include loan production, credit underwriting and documentation.
  • Advanced knowledge of Bank credit underwriting policies, products and services; related state and federal laws and regulations, and other Bank operational policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills - ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Advanced skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; mainframe computer system; word processing, spreadsheet and specialty software programs.
  • Advanced understanding of financial reporting, cash flows and credit underwriting to include strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions.
  • Provide leadership in the credit administration area to include strong negotiation skills and responsibility for the enforcement of the bank’s credit policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Takes information that the lending officers, and reviews for credit worthiness, adherence to credit standards and guidelines.
  • Provides information to the Regional Credit Officer or higher Credit Officer concerning any negative trends in the loan portfolio.
  • Reviews the loan structure of the proposed loan.
  • Assists loan officers in performing pre-qualifications assessment and analysis of financial condition and risk of requests within the framework of Bank credit culture and current economic and industries trends.
  • Assists loan officers in preparing spreadsheets and analyzes financial information including financial statements and tax returns.
  • Answers questions from external auditors and state and federal regulators, where appropriate.
  • Works closely with Credit Administration on examining the findings from periodic loan reviews or regulatory examinations.
  • Conducts industry peer comparisons, performs cash flow analyses and other such tasks and comparisons.
  • Develops knowledge of financial industry, economy, market conditions, rates and competition.
  • Works directly with lending officers to develop preliminary sales skills and experience.
  • Partners with Loan Processors to gain experience in loan closings, loan servicing requirements, portfolio management and OnBase systems.
  • Partners with other bank departments to gain knowledge of Retail Operations, deposit account products and servicing, Treasury Services, Bankcard, and other essential banking departments
  • Encouraged to join a community organization for the intention of networking and building personal recognition within the community
  • Encouraged to attend community and/or networking events to expand their social outreach
  • Reinforces the application of superior customer service through his or her own example along with appropriate follow through with employees.
  • Operates computer terminal or personal computer to obtain and process data.
  • Answers telephones, answers questions from lending officers.
  • Completes annual compliance courses.
  • Adheres specifically to all corporate policies and procedures. Also adheres to Federal and State regulations and laws; including, the Bank Secrecy Act and the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
  • Adheres to all levels of our Service Excellence standards.
  • Performs other duties as required.
