About The Position

The Maine Legislature’s Office of Fiscal and Program Review, a nonpartisan staff office of the Legislative Council, is seeking a Legislative Fiscal Analyst to work in its Augusta office. The role supports the work of the Maine Legislature and requires a highly confidential, professional and nonpartisan approach. The analyst researches and evaluates the fiscal impacts of proposed legislation, policies and budget initiatives, and communicates analysis to committees, legislators and other stakeholders. Some opportunity to work from home is available when the Legislature is not in session.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Research and analyze the fiscal impacts of proposed legislation, policies and budget initiatives for committees and legislators.
• Incorporate analysis results into fiscal notes, reports and presentations.
• Communicate regularly with state agency staff and other affected parties about fiscal impact estimates and budget initiatives.
• Work independently and collaboratively to set priorities and complete assignments in a fast-paced environment at the request of legislators, supervisors and other staff.
• Manage and track State budget initiatives and provide information to the Appropriations Committee on budget matters in assigned policy areas.
