About The Position

Aspen Careers is partnering with a nonprofit healthcare organization to identify a senior-level Legislative Affairs professional who will play a dual role supporting both government affairs and executive leadership. This position combines high-level legislative strategy and Capitol Hill engagement with Board of Directors coordination, offering a unique opportunity to operate at the center of policy, governance, and organizational growth. This individual will report directly to the CEO and serve as a critical connector across leadership, government stakeholders, and the Board.

Requirements

  • Strong Capitol Hill experience (former Congressional staffer or equivalent)
  • 5+ years of experience in legislative affairs, government relations, or policy roles
  • Experience supporting senior executives or Boards is highly preferred
  • Deep understanding of legislative processes and government relations
  • Familiarity with TRICARE, VA, DHA, or related healthcare policy is a plus
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to operate at a strategic level while executing on detailed deliverables
  • Highly professional, discreet, and comfortable in high-visibility settings
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities

Responsibilities

  • Track and analyze federal and state legislation impacting TRICARE, VA, and defense health programs
  • Serve as a key point of contact for government affairs, managing relationships with Congressional offices and staff
  • Coordinate and follow up on Capitol Hill meetings, including preparation of briefing materials
  • Draft policy memos, legislative summaries, and communications
  • Manage legislative language, bill drafts, and coordination with lobbyists and external partners
  • Engage with House and Senate committees, including Armed Services and Veterans Affairs
  • Coordinate all Board of Directors activities, including quarterly meetings and Executive Committee sessions
  • Prepare board materials, read-aheads, and briefing documents for leadership
  • Manage scheduling and logistics for board and committee meetings
  • Ensure board members are informed of organizational developments, key initiatives, and events
  • Serve as a central liaison between executive leadership and the Board
