About The Position
Postmedia is seeking a Legislative/Provincial Affairs Journalist to work remotely in Regina, SK. The ideal candidate will be an enterprising self-starter and team player with a knack for identifying stories that resonate with Regina's diverse readership. This role involves cultivating sources, breaking news under tight deadlines, and writing clear, concise, and engaging content. The journalist will cover news and stories related to the legislature, with a focus on political analysis and contextual pieces for the Saskatchewan landscape. Responsibilities include initiating and developing enterprise stories, cultivating sources, and breaking news to set the news agenda.
Requirements
- Digital-first journalist, capable of writing clean copy quickly.
- Strong writer, with the flexibility to write breaking news, compelling features and short form along with non-traditional story formats such as explainers and Q/As
- Drive and curiosity to dig deep and get answers.
- Ability to identify trends and drivers behind the news that allows you to explain why and how, as well as what is happening.
- Talent for explanatory journalism.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
Responsibilities
- Cover news and stories both in and outside the legislature, with an added focus on deeper political and analysis pieces that lend context to the Saskatchewan landscape.
- Initiating and developing ideas for enterprise stories and projects.
- Cultivating sources and establishing expertise to break stories and set the news agenda.
