About The Position

Battery Council International (BCI) is seeking a Legislative Affairs Coordinator to join their small, remote team. This role is central to BCI's advocacy program, focusing on tracking legislative and regulatory activities across all states and assisting with federal matters. It's an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional in government affairs to gain significant ownership and a national perspective on policy.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in political science, energy, public policy, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Approximately two to five years of experience in government affairs, legislative tracking, policy research, or a closely related field (strong internship experience considered).
  • Familiarity with state legislative and regulatory processes (and ideally federal).
  • Sharp research and writing skills.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail across a high volume of material.
  • Self-direction to manage a broad workload effectively on a home-based, distributed team.
  • Must be based within the DC area for remote work.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to environmental, recycling, product-stewardship, or manufacturing policy.
  • Experience with a legislative-tracking platform (e.g., Bloomberg Government, Politico).
  • Experience with coalition work.

Responsibilities

  • Track legislation and regulation affecting the battery industry across all states via BCI’s tracking database, maintaining a current and reliable picture of moving issues.
  • Review the Federal Register daily for regulatory actions affecting the industry and follow federal legislation.
  • Summarize and report on developments, maintaining an ongoing issues-management report for the team and members.
  • Draft articles and updates on policy issues for BCI’s digital publications and website.
  • Support state outreach efforts to advance BCI’s policy priorities and coordinate with members and allied organizations.
  • Assist with federal advocacy work as needed.
