About The Position

The mission of Listerhill Credit Union is to be a financial cooperative focused on improving the lives, including financial health, in the community. In 1952, seven Reynolds Metals employees deposited $5 each with the idea of starting a credit union that was member-owned and member-focused. We serve multiple counties throughout northwest Alabama and south-central Tennessee with a full line of financial solutions. As Legal Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the organization’s legal obligations by managing sensitive legal documents and responding to court-ordered and regulatory requests. You will serve as a key point of contact for internal partners, legal counsel, and external agencies, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strict adherence to applicable laws and policies.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of related experience
  • Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, Legal Studies, or related field; experience can be used in lieu of a degree
  • Understanding of financial services industry regulations preferred.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with contract and/or vendor management software.
  • Excellent ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
  • Commitment to LCU’s Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Must successfully complete appropriate LCU assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, interpret and process legal documents including Powers of Attorney, subpoenas, liens, levies and wage garnishments.
  • Work closely with operations and frontline staff to improve processes and ensure compatible staff and member experiences for document reviews.
  • Ensure timely and compliant responses to court orders, government requests, and third-party legal notices in accordance with federal, state and local regulations, under supervision of an attorney.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to legal actions, ensuring confidentiality and data integrity at all times.
  • Assist, and serve as backup to, the Director of Contracts to ensure consistent third-party governance and vendor management.
  • Monitor deadlines and ensure proper execution of required actions to mitigate organizational risk.
  • Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy and compliance within legal operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
