About The Position

The Legal Secretary/Restitution Clerk works directly under the supervision of the Office Manager and the District Attorney’s designee. This full-time, 40-hour per week position involves maintaining the Restitution Program within the District Attorney’s Office, tracking all restitution ordered by the Courts, ensuring payments are made and documented, and drafting correspondence related to restitution. The role also includes setting up case files, managing deferred disposition and administrative release cases, entering data from police reports, answering phones, general filing, and operating office equipment. The position requires proficiency in computer programs and case management systems, the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, stressful environment, a good understanding of court procedures and the Criminal Justice System, and effective communication with the public.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining information requested by Assistant District Attorneys from police officers and other agencies.
  • Setting up case files and keeping track of each case.
  • Keeping track of deferred disposition and administrative release cases.
  • Maintaining the Restitution Program, including tracking all restitution ordered by the Courts, ensuring payments are made and documented.
  • Drafting letters to victims regarding restitution, motions for contempt for non-payment, and motions to enforce payment of restitution.
  • Coordinating restitution collection between the Department of Probation and the Office of the District Attorney.
  • Entering into the computer all summons and reports received from police departments for review by the Assistant District Attorney.
  • Answering telephone calls, general filing, and operating all office equipment.
  • Assisting the Legal Secretary/Receptionist, the Administrative Secretary, and the Office Administrator with their duties.
  • Taking restitution and deferred disposition payments.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the District Attorney, his/her designee, and/or the Office Administrator.
