About The Position

The Legal Professional 2 – Risk & Policy supports the Legal Department’s policy, procedure, governance, risk management, and compliance activities. This role drafts, edits, maintains, and coordinates Legal Department policies, procedures, standards, job aids, training materials, communications, and other governance activities. The professional works with attorneys, legal professionals, subject matter experts, and enterprise partners to create clear, accurate, and compliant governance materials that align with Legal Department and enterprise standards. The role also supports risk assessments, control documentation, audit and examination readiness, issue tracking, stakeholder coordination, governance reporting, training delivery, and process improvement initiatives. This is an individual contributor role focused on execution, coordination, documentation quality, and program support rather than ownership of Legal Department risk or compliance strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Paralegal Certificate.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience in a corporate setting, law firm, or government agency.
  • Superior interpersonal and inter-team communication skills.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Superior organizational skills while being able to prioritize workload to meet critical timelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, including senior management and executives.
  • Creative problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner seeking input of others as needed.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products.
  • Team-oriented mentality with a talent for managing or fitting into a project team.
  • Strong team management and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a legal department, financial services organization, compliance function, risk management environment, or enterprise governance function.
  • Familiarity with policy governance frameworks, operational risk concepts, internal controls, issue management, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance processes.
  • Experience drafting, editing, or maintaining policies, procedures, standards, job aids, training materials, communications, or governance documentation.
  • Experience supporting audits, regulatory examinations, compliance reviews, risk assessments, control documentation, or enterprise governance programs.
  • Experience coordinating stakeholder reviews, approvals, version control, publication, archival activities, governance trackers, or supporting documentation repositories.
  • Experience translating complex legal, operational, regulatory, or risk concepts into clear, practical guidance for business or Legal Department audiences.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Copilot, workflow tools, document management systems, reporting trackers, or governance/risk management platforms, including Archer.
  • JD, paralegal certification, risk or compliance certification, project management credential, or procedure-writing credential is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support Legal Department or business unit in improving processes, knowledge management, information governance, records management, vendor management, and use of technology.
  • Develop and implement service delivery models, communications, and training.
  • Manage the Legal Department’s cross-functional requirements, including risk assessments, business continuity plans, audits, security, space planning, and other similar programs.
  • Manage Legal Department projects, strategic planning, and strategic initiatives and supervise the development of reports used to manage resources and expenses.
  • Cultivate a team-oriented environment through leadership that enhances junior Teammates’ hard work and successes.
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in drafting and negotiating appropriate contractual or other legal documents to ensure mitigation of financial and regulatory risk to the company and prepare written memoranda, summaries of contracts/project-level documents, and various letters, polices, procedures, etc.
  • Research federal and state statutes, rules, and regulations and apply such law to existing facts.
  • Respond to legal inquires and interpret internal policies and procedures.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal and external project stakeholders, including other Legal Department Teammates, interested lines of business, and vendors.
  • Identify legal or business risks and escalate appropriately.
