About The Position

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world’s leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking a Legal Practice Assistant to support the Intellectual Property - Patent practice group (IP-PATSU PG). This position will report to the Manager of Legal Practice Support. The position will be responsible for providing a broad range of administrative and substantive legal support to the IP-PATSU PG in an environment where collaboration and exceptional client service is emphasized. Legal Practice Assistants are part of ML LawPath®, a comprehensive program that combines substantive law firm experience with practical, hands-on training and professional development opportunities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (STEM background preferred)
  • 3.5 GPA or higher preferred
  • One (1) year of internship or professional experience preferred
  • Two-year commitment expected.

  • Superior written/verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and within a team environment are a must

Responsibilities

  • Establishes, organizes and maintains case and client files and databases.
  • Supports the development and management of case and practice group timelines.
  • Assists attorneys with the preparation and review of various patent documents and forms.
  • Provides draft documents to attorneys and clients.
  • Reviews and processes Filing Receipt, Notice of Recordation, Office Actions, Notices of Allowance, Recordation of Assignment, Letters Patent, and Notice of Publication in accordance with set guidelines and procedures.
  • Prepares pre-issuance documents, which include Issue Fee Payments and Information Disclosure Statements, if necessary.
  • Prepares and files documents with the US Patent and Trademark Office, including Requests for Filing Receipt, Requests for Corrected Filing Receipt, Issue Fees, Formal Drawings and New Patent Applications.
  • Prepares non-technical prosecution documents, including Notices to File Missing Parts, Notices to File Corrected Application Papers, Inventor Declarations, Assignment and Powers of Attorney.
  • Coordinates communication and planning across teams who are handling multiple client matters.
  • Provides administrative support, including, but not limited to, document production, conflicts checks for new matters, and business intake materials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the IP-PATSU PG.
