About The Position

The Attorney General’s Office is recruiting for a permanent full time Legal Office Assistant in the Social and Health Services Section of the Spokane Division. This position is located in Spokane, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE). The Social & Health Services Section is fast-paced, complex, and litigation intensive. SHS focuses on our vulnerable populations, handling cases involving children and adults. They also handle licensing matters involving foster homes, adult family homes and daycares.

Requirements

  • Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical experience including a minimum of six months of experience in a legal office environment.
  • Option 2: One year of legal office experience.
  • Option 3: A combination of two years of college education and/or relevant experience.
  • Option 4: A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal studies or related field of study.

  • Detail oriented, efficient, organized and previous general office experience.

Responsibilities

  • Opening new cases, uses independent judgment to extract and verify case data for the accurate and timely docketing of legal documents and critical court dates into Case Management System/Law Manager.
  • Pulling or locating files for courts and/or employees.
  • Printing, providing to parties, calendaring, and filing documents as directed/needed.
  • Uses independent skills to properly identify cases through various computer records for any unidentified incoming mail.
  • Acts as agency liaison with court clerk's office.
  • Identifies, locates, and prints court docket for cases.
  • Filing documents in case files.
  • Provides back-up services to legal assistants and supervisor with various unit projects to meet deadlines as needed or directed by supervisor.
  • Processes basic or routine correspondence.
  • Photocopies and scans documents.
  • Obtains regular and certified copies of documents from juvenile and superior court files.
  • Uses independent judgment to seek out other projects/work to assist section.
  • Provides back-up to receptionists, including various errands.
