About The Position

The mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Inc. (“JALC”) is to entertain, enrich and expand a global community for jazz through performance, education, and advocacy. From college students to young stars, from working professionals to celebrated masters, we present quality jazz for an ever-increasing audience in an unprecedented range of activities and a variety of venues. We are dedicated to lifting audiences and bringing people together with substance and with integrity. JALC has created a dynamic platform where our key constituents – jazz artists (beginner to grizzled veteran), fans (casual listeners to advanced scholars), educators (local band leaders to leading artist-educators) and advocates (local community advocates to important national promoters) – can meet, engage, learn, and work towards common objectives. We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive legal intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of legal operations, contract drafting, compliance research, and departmental administration. The intern will assist with drafting license and vendor agreements, summarizing contracts, preparing summaries and memos about important aspects of JALC’s business, organizing Legal Department operations, conducting legal and operational research, and assisting with board and committee meetings as needed, while also contributing to the development of educational materials and resources. By the end of the internship, interns will develop foundational skills in contract drafting and review, understand legal processes within a nonprofit arts organization, gain experience in corporate governance documentation, strengthen research and analytical skills, and build proficiency in legal and administrative workflows.
