About The Position

Porter Hedges is seeking a proactive and tech-savvy intern to support our attorneys in learning and effectively utilizing the Firm’s internal AI tools. This eight-week internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of law and emerging technology, helping to drive adoption, understanding, and the practical use of AI in a legal environment. The intern will support tool adoption and training efforts, helping translate legal needs into practical, user-friendly solutions. This internship is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated individual with a strong interest in legal innovation and the evolving role of AI in law firm operations. The role provides hands-on exposure to real-world applications of AI within a law firm environment and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our ongoing innovation initiatives. Requirements

  • Current law student and/or undergraduate or graduate student with coursework or experience in artificial intelligence, data science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with generative AI tools (e.g., large language models, legal AI platforms).
  • Strong interest in legal technology, innovation, and the evolving role of AI in legal practice.
  • Comfortable experimenting with new technologies and learning quickly.
  • Excellent research, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex and technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Experience creating training materials, user guides, or delivering presentations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Professional demeanor, as well as strong work ethic and service orientation.
  • Prior experience in a law firm, legal setting, or technology-focused role.

Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys and staff in learning and using the Firm’s AI tools through one-on-one guidance, small group sessions, and informal training.
  • Develop and deliver practical, easy-to-understand training materials, quick reference guides, and best practices.
  • Test and evaluate AI tools and features, including new releases and pilot programs, and provide structured feedback on usability and effectiveness.
  • Identify and document real-world use cases for AI across practice groups to support broader adoption.
  • Act as a “translator” between technical teams (e.g., Knowledge Resources, IT) and attorneys – helping communicate needs, challenges, and opportunities in a clear and actionable way.
  • Gather user feedback, track common questions and pain points, and help refine training and support strategies.
  • Analyze market trends, vendor offerings, and competitor activity in legal innovation and AI.
  • Assist in developing internal communications and resources to promote awareness and engagement with AI tools.
