About The Position
Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is seeking a passionate Legal Counsel to join their U.S. Legal Team, focusing on litigating for the Center for Life. This role is crucial in protecting unborn babies and their mothers from abortion, and defending pro-life advocates. The Legal Counsel will litigate civil actions, emphasizing constitutional claims under the First Amendment and 42 U.S.C. § 1983. Responsibilities include working with states to defend pro-life laws, drafting court filings, arguing motions and appeals, collaborating with clients, conducting legal and factual research, and engaging with the media on relevant cases and issues.
Requirements
- J.D., active license in at least one US state bar, and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction within one year
- 1+ years of complex litigation experience

Responsibilities
- Litigate high-profile lawsuits in support of unborn babies and their mothers, in addition to defending pro-life advocates on the frontlines.
- Conduct research for new and pending cases, interview clients and witnesses.
- Draft complaints, motions, briefs, and other documents for submission to state or federal courts.
- Prepare and respond to written discovery; conduct and defend depositions.
- Represent clients in court in litigation and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies of government; interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses.
- Confer with colleagues to establish and verify basis for legal proceedings.
- Cooperate with Development team, including speaking engagements and other events.
- Review in-house contracts and legal issues.
- Advise allied attorneys on legal issues within areas of competence.
- Network and develop relationships with allied attorneys and/or potential allied attorneys.
