About The Position

TENEX is seeking a business-minded Legal Counsel to join its growing legal team. This role will support a wide range of legal, regulatory, and compliance matters across the company, with a primary focus on commercial contracting, data protection, and day-to-day legal operations. The ideal candidate is an attorney who is eager to take ownership of substantive work, learn quickly, and thrive in a fast-paced, early-stage environment. This role reports directly to the Senior Legal Counsel and works closely with leaders across Sales, Customer Success, Finance, People Operations, Product, and Security. The Legal Counsel will have substantial opportunity to grow in scope and responsibility as Tenex's legal function expands.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of legal experience, including a combination of law firm and/or in-house experience; experience supporting a technology, SaaS, or cybersecurity company is strongly preferred.
  • Solid foundation in commercial contracting, with hands-on experience drafting and negotiating SaaS, vendor, and NDA agreements.
  • Working knowledge of data protection and privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA) and familiarity with common security standards (SOC 2, NIST) and how they appear in customer contracts.
  • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and in good standing.
  • Ability to spot legal and business issues in contracts and communicate them clearly to both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong drafting skills with a careful eye for detail, internal consistency, and risk.
  • Comfortable managing a high volume of matters simultaneously and prioritizing across competing deadlines.
  • Customer- and partner-focused mindset, with the ability to find practical solutions that move deals forward while protecting the company.
  • Highly organized, responsive, and dependable.
  • Strong written and verbal communicator.
  • Curious and coachable, with a willingness to learn new subject matter areas.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and shifting priorities in a growth-stage environment.
  • High integrity, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school.
  • Member in good standing of a U.S. State Bar.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a high volume of customer, vendor, and partner agreements (including MSAs, SaaS subscription agreements, DPAs, NDAs, SOWs, and order forms), escalating complex or non-standard issues to the Senior Legal Counsel.
  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of Tenex's contract templates, playbooks, and standard positions to accelerate deal cycles and ensure consistency.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for the Sales, Customer Success, Marketing and Procurement teams on routine contracting questions, redlines, and approval workflows.
  • Assist with data protection and privacy compliance work, including assisting with customer security and privacy questionnaires and helping operationalize GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy requirements.
  • Help manage Tenex's contract lifecycle, including intake, routing, e-signature, and post-execution recordkeeping.
  • Contribute to the development of internal trainings and resources on contracting standards, privacy, and compliance best practices.
  • Take on stretch projects and special initiatives as the legal function scales, with the support and mentorship of the Senior Legal Counsel.
