The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets. The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is the in-house legal, policy, strategy and risk management resource for the ASC. The OGC provides legal advice to the Chair and CEO, Commission Members, Executive Director and employees on a wide range of issues, including statutory interpretation, administrative law, securities regulation, corporate/commercial law, information technology/intellectual property law, procurement law and privacy law. In addition, the OGC is responsible for the corporate secretarial and legislative functions at the ASC, and provides advice on corporate governance matters and the application of the Access to Information Act (Alberta) and the Protection of Privacy Act (Alberta) to the ASC. Reporting to the General Counsel, the successful candidate will be part of the OGC team providing legal advice to ASC Executive Management, Commission Members and employees on a wide range of issues and regulatory matters, including ASC procurements, with a focus on IT vendor contracts, SaaS agreements and open tendering, as required, and providing general corporate / commercial legal services support to the ASC.
