About The Position

McDonald's is seeking a Legal Counsel for an eighteen-month contract position in their Toronto office. This role will primarily focus on providing legal advice, and drafting and negotiating agreements and documentation related to commercial real estate and commercial leasing. The Legal Counsel will collaborate with McDonald's Canadian real estate business unit to support new restaurant openings and manage the existing real property portfolio across the country. This position offers an opportunity to enhance existing skills, explore new practice areas, and receive mentorship from experienced legal and business professionals. The role is for an existing position within the company.

Requirements

  • Legal degree (LLB or JD)
  • Member in good standing of a provincial or territorial law society in Canada
  • 4-7 years of commercial real estate legal experience
  • Outstanding analytical, drafting and negotiation skills, with an ability to learn quickly and apply technical skills to a wide range of business initiatives
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work on cross-functional teams
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Prior in-house legal experience gained from a major corporation will be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Support McDonald’s business teams with the drafting and negotiation of commercial leases and licence agreements
  • Act and advise on title, off-title, zoning, construction and other due diligence matters
  • Identify and implement process improvements and working efficiencies within the Legal team and across the business
  • Build precedent and template documents and augment existing Legal Department resources
