About The Position

Foodtastic is seeking a Legal Counsel, Franchising, to join our dynamic team in Montreal. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute strategically across multiple business divisions. You’ll provide legal guidance on franchising, corporate transactions and commercial real estate. We’re looking for a proactive and detail-oriented professional with excellent judgment, strong business acumen, and a passion for the restaurant industry.

Requirements

  • Law degree from either Quebec or Ontario
  • Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec or Law Society of Ontario.
  • 1–3 years of experience in commercial law, with a strong foundation in franchising, corporate transactions, or litigation considered an asset.
  • Strong legal writing, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Perfectly bilingual in French and English, both spoken and written.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with a proactive mindset and eagerness to expand legal expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of legal agreements, including franchise agreements, asset purchase agreements, and share purchase agreements, acting as a strategic partner to operations and property management teams.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and contribute to reporting on ongoing legal files.
  • Interpret contractual rights and obligations, identify legal risks, and propose practical, creative solutions.
  • Provide legal guidance on provincial and federal regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct legal research and monitor evolving legislation relevant to Foodtastic’s operations.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of internal policies and procedures.
  • Provide legal support to cross-functional teams including finance, operations, human resources, and real estate.
  • Contribute to other legal projects within the department, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
