As the Accounting/Billing Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the firm's business and financial operations, ensuring precision in accounts payable and receivable. A strong command of numbers, a deep understanding of our contingency fee billing model, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel are essential. You will be responsible for managing vendor relationships, scrutinizing invoices, and ensuring timely payments. Please note that the first week of each month is considered our "busy season," and availability during this period is required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting or Business Administration.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in an accounting/billing role within a law firm.
• Solid understanding of trust accounting (IOLTA) principles.
• Understanding of the difference between legal fees and expenses.
• Understanding of contingency fee billing.
• Ability to write a check.
• Ability to endorse a check, complete a deposit slip, and make bank deposits.
• Working knowledge of basic legal and litigation terms.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficiency in Excel formulas.
• Ability to multi-task and stay organized.
• Comfortable using a PC.
• Ability to work well with others.

Responsibilities

• Work independently on daily accounting (operating and trust), bookkeeping, and billing functions.
• Record and reconcile a high volume of transactions daily.
• Monitor financial account activity.
• Issue payments via check and wire.
• Collaborate with other billing specialists and firm staff.
• Ensure accuracy and accountability in all tasks.
• Report directly to the firm's managing attorney on a regular basis.
