About The Position

La Cava Jacobson, P.A. is currently seeking an experienced Legal Assistant for its Miami office. This role is ideal for candidates interested in gaining hands-on experience in civil litigation with a focus on insurance defense. Prior experience is necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum one year experience as a Legal Assistant in a law firm.
  • Possess basic PC skills to learn how to use Firm software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Respond promptly to requests for service and assistance; meet commitments.
  • Follow instructions; complete tasks on time; commit to the hours necessary to complete assignments; work independently.
  • Approach others in a tactful manner; treat others with respect; react well under pressure.
  • Contribute to building a positive team spirit; support everyone’s efforts to succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Profile documents and correspondence in firm software, including corresponding billing entries.
  • Maintain attorney's calendars, scheduling/confirming events, ensuring deadlines and events are appropriately calendared and met.
  • Assist attorneys in drafting and editing various documents for correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, format, and content.
  • Manage billing for assigned attorneys (time entry, pre-bills, invoicing) and ensuring compliance with client billing guidelines.
  • Handle incoming invoices from vendors, experts, and other third-parties for services rendered to the firm on behalf of our clients.
  • Submit New Case Assignments, Conflict Checks, and manage other matter-related updates.
  • Answer telephone and routine questions from clients and team members and/or route calls to appropriate staff members.
  • Assist with the organization of client materials and attorney work product.
  • Handle court filings and submissions through the Florida E-Filing Portal, E-Courtesy, E-Service, JAWS, CM/ECF, and services and submission to opposing counsel.
  • Efficiently and thoroughly understand how to use all necessary Firm software.
  • Perform administrative duties such as client file management, general correspondence, expense reports, CLE tracking, check requests, etc.
