About The Position

Cole, Scott & Kissane, an AV-rated litigation firm, is seeking a full-time, experienced litigation legal assistant for its Fort Lauderdale East (Downtown) office. The prospective candidate will work for one of our several practice groups specializing in Commercial Litigation, Employment, Community Association, and overall civil litigation matters. This is a fantastic opportunity to enter the legal field with the largest AM 200 Law firm in the state of Florida. This position requires exceptional tech savviness, organizational skills, ability to perform well within a team environment, and communicate professionally with clients and opposing counsel. An ideal candidate should be familiar with State and Federal court procedures and have extensive experience scheduling, drafting legal documents, and maintaining attorneys’ calendars with exceptional accuracy. While not required, previous experience with scheduling depositions, pre-depositions, meetings, mediations, and hearings using a variety of ancillary systems and programs is a huge plus. Among other responsibilities, the legal assistant will work with Case Management and Document management using Litify, iManage and Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe. E-file legal documents in Florida’s E-Portal System; Assist attorneys in preparing for depositions, hearings, trials and conferences; Draft legal court documents, such as notices, non-technical motions, affidavits and subpoenas; Send correspondence to parties/non-parties via email, regular mail, or certified mail; Communicate with opposing counsel, judicial assistants, court reporters, clients, etc.; Set up Court Call, Teams or Zoom for hearings; and Perform additional duties as required by Managing Attorney/Office Manager. The ideal candidate would have 2+ years of litigation experience in a law firm setting, and experience e-filing in both state and federal courts. Please note that this is an ON-PREMISES position with endless growth potential at an AM 200 Law Firm. Remote work is not offered, so please do not apply if you do not currently reside in South Florida. While not required, knowledge of case management systems, familiarity with L & A codes, billing software, and proven competency to capture time and bill according to guidelines in a timely manner, is a big plus. The ability to multi-task and stay calm under pressure of multiple deadlines, however, is absolutely essential and required. The candidate must have stellar written and verbal communication skills, exceptional common sense, possess meticulous attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate must be detail oriented, work well under pressure, along with a positive, pleasant disposition, have an exceptional attendance record and have demonstrated a stable job tenure of two or more years in each position. THIS IS NOT an entry-level position. Previous experience and an established, stable work-history in the legal industry is required.
