About The Position

The Capital Defender's Office is seeking a qualified candidate to assist staff with office processes to include but not limited to opening of new cases; processing of appointments and expert funding requests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and three (3) years of legal clerical experience
  • Completion of a two-year legal Secretarial Science or Business Administration Associate Degree and one (1) year of responsible legal secretarial experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of office management practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of court system practices, forms and procedures
  • Knowledge of NC General Statutes related to criminal defense
  • Knowledge of general office computer software and hardware
  • Skills in computer technology
  • Skills in audio-visual equipment
  • Skills in digital files
  • Skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to explain office procedures to judicial personnel and the public
  • Ability to analyze and interpret information and make necessary decisions with accuracy
  • Ability to prepare forms and legal documents
  • Ability to transcribe material in prescribed format with a high degree of accuracy using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling to produce legal documents
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to organize and complete work by specific guidelines
  • Ability to work independently
