About The Position

Acting under the direction and supervision of the Associate Litigation Counsel, provides general Legal Assistant support of the litigation functions and responsibilities of the Associate Litigation Counsel, as well as in support of the more general legal needs of the WVUHS Legal Department.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or Equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in legal or related field.
  • Good verbal and writing skills.
  • Ability to proofread and edit documents.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate standard office software.
  • Willingness to adapt and reprioritize tasks in a changing environment.
  • Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize while working independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in business/office management, secretarial sciences, or related legal field
  • Experience with database and document management systems
  • Experience related to general litigation and legal processes
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe

Responsibilities

  • Provide a wide range of support to WVUHS litigation team
  • Key point of contact, responsible for calendar management and travel (when necessary) for assistant litigation counsel.
  • Communicate timely and professionally with internal WVUHS departments regarding legal matters.
  • Prepares documents for signature and coordinates execution and mailing or electronic filing of legal documents.
  • Monitor and maintain management information for the WVUH Legal Services Department.
  • Maintain appropriate departmental filing system and departmental files ensuring ease of access in timely manner to accurate information.
  • Complete various projects related to the organization of documents, filing systems, and management of litigation matters.
  • Create and organize information, and generate reference tools for easy use by the office.
  • Circulate copies of litigation documents to litigation team members and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Support the WVUH Legal Services Department in all matters, including support of other counsel and staff within the Department as needed.
  • Train other personnel in litigation databases as directed.
  • Organize and track files for important case documents, including pleadings and voluminous discovery documents; creating files and maintaining files in electronic case management databases.
  • Obtaining and assisting with the review of discovery materials and other court filings.
  • Search legal records collected in computer databases.
