The Thurston County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Legal Assistant I in the Criminal Division. In this role, you will provide assistance in explaining detailed regulations, procedures, and complex requirements within the legal or judicial system. You will research and answer questions or inquiries from the public, law enforcement, or other agencies. Additionally, you will review files, set up files, and input case information into the database system. This position serves as a primary point of contact, answers multiline incoming telephone calls, and provides assistance to the public, attorneys, law enforcement, court and community agencies. You will screen and refer telephone calls and inquiries, and read and route incoming mail. You will respond to questions and provide answers to the public accessing readily available information from office records and in accordance with regulations on public records and confidentiality. You will analyze case specifications and assist in the selection of appropriate mandatory forms required to proceed in court. You will receive, monitor, and process case files and legal documents and maintain records. You will review incoming documents and process according to procedures. You will file and record legal documents, obtain required signatures and authorizations, maintain case files, and record dates on which subsequent actions must occur. You will verify appropriate information is included on paperwork or in file to ensure accurate processing. You will verify the accuracy/completeness of legal documents identifying inconsistency with statutes and provide technical information for compliance. You will enter, review, and retrieve case information using the appropriate computer-based data system. You will set up and monitor case files to assure timely action or review. You will identify appropriate RCWs, court rules and procedures before entering judgments and filing legal documents. You will track, update, log and monitor activities of cases. You will provide and request information to and from agencies and other jurisdictions. You will track and monitor files as prescribed and close, purge and archive files according to policies and procedures. You will obtain and prepare case files for court sessions ensuring appropriate documentation is in the files. You will maintain frequent contact with clients, witnesses, law enforcement agencies, judges, court personnel, attorneys, and support staff as appropriate. You will generate basic legal documents for court proceedings according to established formats, policies and procedures. You will transcribe legal correspondence and documents following instructions and within established formats and/or by reference to similar documents. You may evaluate customer’s need for domestic violence, harassment and/or restraining orders. You may set appointments or court hearing dates. You will answer or refer procedural questions of technical nature.
