We’re seeking a detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support construction and real estate matters, including contract templates and documents (AIA), RFP support, legal correspondence, and file administration. You’ll partner with internal teams and external stakeholders to help keep projects compliant and documentation accurate. A general understanding of legal issues related to construction and real estate contracts is required. Specifically, you will: Provide support to the Legal team by reviewing, preparing, and administering construction and real estate contracts and related documents. Assist with AIA contract templates and documents, RFP materials, amendments, NDAs, board memos, and other correspondence; proofread for accuracy and consistency. Maintain organized legal files and client records so documents are properly stored, current, and easy to retrieve. Collaborate with internal project teams and interface with clients, attorneys, and consultants to support compliance with contract terms. Working knowledge of construction and real estate contracts required. Provide administrative support (calendars, scheduling, meeting coordination, proofreading). Assist Corporate Counsel with business transactions, legal research, and discovery support, while following corporate policies and applicable regulations. Requirements

  • 3–5+ years’ experience in a law firm or construction-industry setting (construction and/or real estate law preferred).
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies required.
  • Familiarity with legal concepts, processes, systems, and rules relevant to the construction industry; demonstrated ability and interest to learn.
  • Ability to draft legal documents under attorney supervision.
  • Position is based in Southfield, MI. and is in-office. Occasional work-from-home days are acceptable.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound judgment and ability to prioritize and complete work independently.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and support process improvements.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • This is an exempt position so you may have to work hours that exceed the standard 40-hour work week.

Responsibilities

  • Support drafting and administration of construction contracts, subcontracts, purchase agreements, RFPs, service contracts, and related documents.
  • Help manage client contracts and related documentation.
  • Conduct legal research on relevant areas (construction, real estate, government incentives, tax, and related topics).
  • With guidance from General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel, help answer questions and provide training on contract-related legal and compliance topics.
  • Complete paperwork and maintain records to support licensing and regulatory compliance.
