About The Position

The Legal and Compliance Team at Kairos Living, a rapidly growing national single-family rental fund (SFR), is seeking a highly motivated, positive individual with excellent organizational and communication skills, that can contribute to the success of the team. The position will have frequent interaction with attorneys, judges, and multiple departments at the firm. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple work streams simultaneously, and have superior time-management to meet crucial deadlines. This position will report to the Legal Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred; Paralegal Certification a plus.
  • Experience in real estate law, property management, landlord-tenant disputes, and fair housing regulations.
  • Ability to review contracts, draft legal notices, conduct research on local laws, and assist with litigation support.
  • Familiarity with eviction proceedings, small claims court, bankruptcy reviews, and legal compliance for property management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with attorneys, tenants, and government agencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and legal case management tools; ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Willingness to attend virtual and in-person hearings and handle urgent legal matters as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Initial review of third-party contracts, such as non-disclosure agreements, broker listing agreements, and master service agreements.
  • Assist with handling all aspects of landlord-tenant issues such as disputes, sensitive communications, termination requests, evictions, and lease violations.
  • Research local, state and federal laws, as needed, to ensure compliance prior to implementing any processes and procedures.
  • Manage inquiries and investigations from governmental entities, law enforcement, and local code enforcement.
  • Work with and oversee local counsel in preparation for court hearings and trials, including secondary review of certain pleadings and compiling the relevant information and documentation.
  • Review bankruptcy dockets.
  • Manage insurance claims from initial claim through conclusion.
  • Manage local business licenses, registrations, and other municipal requirements for rental properties.
  • Ability to travel out of state and appear as a company witness for various court hearings, proceedings, or trials.
