About The Position

This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Women's Services- Community Support Services. Good Shepherd is committed to providing hope and enhancing dignity and self-determination for individuals and families. This is a temporary full-time position for up to 18 months.

Requirements

  • Completed post-secondary education in social justice, criminology, law and/or legal studies is required
  • Thorough knowledge of issues such as gender-based violence, intimate partner violence, mental health, substance use and harm reduction
  • Thorough knowledge of the criminal justice system, domestic violence legislation in the Criminal Code, Immigration systems, Family law and the Family court system
  • A minimum of two years' experience working with individuals who have experienced gender-based violence is required.
  • CPR/1st Aid is required
  • A valid Ontario Driver's License and ability to drive the company vehicle is required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, public speaking, and advocacy skills are required.
  • Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to speak French and/or other languages considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Support cis women, trans, and non-binary individuals who have experienced gender-based violence and are navigating the legal system.
  • Support and assist individuals in accessing resources and understanding their rights.
  • Advocate for a legal system that is responsive and accountable to those who have experienced gender-based/intimate partner violence.
  • Provide respectful, appropriate, and culturally competent services to diverse and marginalized communities.
  • Work effectively to address the systemic barriers faced by women, trans, non-binary, and gender-fluid individuals within the legal system.
  • Plan, attend, and support public education initiatives and community events.
  • Collaborate with co-workers to plan and facilitate group activities internally.
  • Responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures, and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd.
