About The Position

The Department of Civil Society & Community Studies is hiring a lecturer for the Fall 2026 semester in the Community & Organizational Development (COD) undergraduate program. The COD program prepares students to advance positive societal change through communities and organizations, including careers in social justice, advocacy, social work/social services, and more. The lecturer will teach one section of CSCS 330: American Indian Communities: Sovereignty, Struggles, and Successes or related courses. Students in this course will learn about contemporary Native communities, both domestically and globally, through a carefully curated selection of readings, podcasts, and videos from Indigenous scholars, community members, knowledge holders, and activists. The course offers a broad historical overview of Native American communities in the United States that illustrates the historical trajectory from early colonization and dispossession through self-determination and the recognition of tribal sovereignty in action by local, state, and federal governments. The course will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 - 10:45am during the Fall 2026 semester. This position is part-time at 33.3%. This is a terminal position from August 17, 2026 - December 30, 2026. This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.

Requirements

• Ability to work effectively within a diverse community

• Industry experience and knowledge of the subject matter
• Basic computer skill proficiency (knowledge of learning management systems e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, etc)

• At least two years of successful teaching experience at the college level

Responsibilities

• Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
• Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
• Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
