About The Position

The Department of First-Year & University Programs within the Office of Undergraduate Studies at California State University San Marcos accepts applications on an on-going basis for our pool of part-time lecturers. Teaching responsibilities within FY&UP include a variable unit first-year seminars, 1-unit and 3-unit academic resiliency/success courses, and 1-unit second-year seminars, all of which aim to (1) support students in their transition to the academic and social demands of college and (2) support students in the psycho-social development of self and community including the development of personal values and goals for college and career success. Candidates should have experience working directly with students. Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31st. If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15th.

Requirements

  • A master's degree
  • Demonstrated ability in working with students to facilitate their transition from high school to college.
  • Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in education, teaching and learning, instruction and curriculum development, or in the area of adult education.
  • Previous college-level teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students, particularly first-generation students, to facilitate their transition to the academic and social demands of college.
  • Understanding of CSU undergraduate general education requirements and ability to direct/guide students toward the necessary information/resources for developing an academic plan and career goals.
  • Intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
