About The Position

The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Johns Hopkins University is seeking an adjunct faculty member for the David S. Olton Behavioral Biology Program to teach Animal Behavior. This course, Animal Behavior – 200.208, explores the mechanisms and adaptive functions of behaviors across the animal kingdom within an evolutionary context. Topics include neurobiological, hormonal, and developmental aspects of behaviors such as survival, feeding, reproduction, communication, parental care, and cooperation. Students will also develop scientific hypotheses, predictions, and interpret graphical data. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a proven ability to deliver high-quality education to undergraduate students.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. (or ABD) in psychology, biology, neuroscience, ethology, or a related discipline, or a master’s degree at minimum.
  • Teaching experience is essential.
  • Passion for teaching.
  • Strong record in the classroom.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality education to undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Animal Behavior (200.208) course.
  • Examine neurobiological, hormonal, and developmental mechanisms of animal behaviors.
  • Analyze the adaptive function of behaviors in an evolutionary context.
  • Cover behaviors including survival, acquiring food, reproduction, communication, parental care, and cooperation.
  • Instruct students on developing hypotheses and predictions for scientific questions.
  • Guide students in interpreting graphical results.
