About The Position

The Department of Biology at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for the Master of Biotechnology program to teach BIOT 660: Scientific Communication in Industry. This 16-week course will be taught in-person, from 8/31-12/19/26, schedule TBD. BIOT 660 – Scientific Communication in Industry Provides insight and practice in the forms of scientific communication including scientific papers, technical reports, presentations, proposals, organizational reporting/reports, and other communication demands found in industry. Students will differentiate between objectives of the various communication purposes and understand key steps and ingredients for effective communication. Emphasizes basic skills for both written and oral communication and provides practice of these principles. Enrollment is restricted to students who have been admitted to the Master of Biotechnology Program.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science.
  • Experience teaching, or equivalent practical experience in Scientific Communication using a variety of technologies and tools.
  • Communication and Presentation Skills.
  • Continuous Learning and Adaptability (commitment to staying update with latest techniques and developments).
  • Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master of Science, or related field or equivalent and/or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience mentoring students or employees in topics related to tools and technologies used in Scientific Communication.
  • Experience teaching, either as a course instructor or teaching assistant, especially in topics related to Scientific Communication in Industry.
  • Intercultural competence and a commitment to serving the campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.

Responsibilities

  • Teach BIOT 660: Scientific Communication in Industry.
  • Provide insight and practice in various forms of scientific communication including scientific papers, technical reports, presentations, proposals, organizational reporting/reports, and other communication demands found in industry.
  • Differentiate between objectives of various communication purposes.
  • Understand key steps and ingredients for effective communication.
  • Emphasize basic skills for both written and oral communication and provide practice of these principles.
  • Design a well-structured syllabus and select appropriate course materials or adapt existing materials.
