About The Position

Washburn University's Department of Biology is seeking to fill an open position in Biology with a specialization in anatomy. This role can be at either the lecturer (non-tenure-track) or assistant professor (tenure-track) rank. A candidate hired into a non-tenure-track appointment may be eligible for conversion to a tenure-track position upon successful completion of a doctorate degree, contingent upon department and institutional needs. The position begins August 1, 2027, and is a full-time, nine-month appointment with a renewable annual contract. The selected candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and inclusive teaching practices that engage all learners. The Biology Department offers degrees in general biology, environmental biology, forensic biology, molecular biology & biotechnology, and biology secondary education, and also teaches service courses for programs in Nursing, Kinesiology, and Allied Health. The successful candidate will collaborate pedagogically with a student-centered faculty team. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in anatomy, biology, or closely related field (for Lecturer position).
  • Demonstrated dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage all learners (for both positions).
  • Ph.D. in anatomy, biology, or closely related field (for Assistant Professor position). ABD applicants will be considered, with completion of the doctorate by August 1, 2028.
  • Experience or potential for research in field of anatomy or related biology disciplines (for Assistant Professor position).
  • Official educational transcripts required by all faculty at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill teaching expectations associated with lecturer or tenure-track appointment. Teach 12-faculty load hours per semester (either in-person or online, according to departmental needs) or equivalent full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook.
  • Teach and develop undergraduate classes as assigned and as dependent upon department needs, which may include introductory human biology lecture and lab, human anatomy, developmental biology, histology, in addition to other courses consistent with the candidate’s training and interests.
  • For position as assistant professor only: Fulfill scholarship expectations associated with a tenure-track appointment.
  • Fulfill service expectations associated with lecturer or tenure-track appointment by engaging in service activities in the department, university, and profession.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
