About The Position

Mercer University’s Department of Biology seeks a Lecturer for its Macon, Georgia campus. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track faculty position. The lecturer will teach undergraduate courses, including the 100-level introductory biology sequence and a related 100- or 200-level laboratory course. The teaching load is five to six courses (27 hours) per academic year. The successful candidate will also advise students and contribute to departmental service. Applicants should demonstrate a record of, or potential for, excellent teaching in a liberal arts college context. The candidate’s disciplinary focus should integrate well with the current department faculty. Mercer’s Department of Biology has 16 full-time faculty members and more than 300 majors and minors. It offers degrees in Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Neuroscience. The position is based in person at Mercer University’s Macon campus.

Requirements

Earned an M.S. or Ph.D. in biological science or a related field from an accredited college or university; Ph.D. ABD candidates will be considered.
Disciplinary focus should integrate well with current department faculty.
Demonstrate a track record of, or potential for, excellence in teaching in the context of a liberal arts college.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate courses, including Introduction to Biology (BIO 171 and/or BIO 172).
Teach five to six courses, totaling 27 hours, per academic year.
Teach at least one of the following: Elements of Microbiology (BIO 102), Plant and Animal Physiology (BIO 260), or Genetics (BIO 280).
Teach a related 100- or 200-level laboratory course.
Advise students.
Contribute to departmental service.
