About The Position

The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) is seeking a 12-month, non-tenure-accruing faculty member for the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department. This position is 100% teaching and will involve instructing undergraduate and graduate food science courses in both in-person and online formats. Responsibilities include teaching core food science courses, developing and delivering upper-level undergraduate courses, and contributing to teaching excellence through innovative instructional approaches and curriculum development. The faculty member will also mentor and advise undergraduate students, support their professional development through experiential learning and competitive activities, and engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, such as curriculum revision, seeking funding for teaching programs, publishing teaching-related scholarship, and producing learning tools. Faculty are encouraged to support distance education, international education, and the CALS Honors Program. A Ph.D. degree makes a candidate eligible for the 'Instructional Assistant Professor' working title. All faculty are expected to support and engage in Research, Teaching, and Extension, aligning with the IFAS land-grant mission.

Requirements

A master’s degree (foreign equivalent acceptable) in food science or a closely related discipline.
Demonstrated skills in teaching, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal relationships.

Nice To Haves

A Ph.D. degree (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Food Science or a closely related discipline (required for 'Instructional Assistant Professor' title).
Experience teaching food science courses in both in-person and online learning environments, including course development and curriculum enhancement.
Familiarity with the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Higher Education Review Board (HERB) approval process assessment.
Experience securing extramural funding to support educational programs.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate food science courses in both in-person and online formats.
Develop and deliver upper-level undergraduate courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise.
Contribute to excellence in teaching through innovative instructional approaches and curriculum development.
Mentor and advise undergraduate students.
Support student professional development through participation in experiential learning and competitive activities.
Coach and mentor students involved in organizations and competitions (e.g., Food Science Club, FFA-related activities, IFT Student Quiz Bowl, Product Development Competitions).
Engage in scholarly activities related to instruction, including curriculum revision and enhancement.
Actively seek funding for the teaching program.
Publish teaching-related scholarship and produce learning tools.
Engage in professional development activities related to teaching and advising.
Support and participate in the CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education.
