About The Position

The University of Virginia School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) is seeking applicants for a tenure-ineligible instructional position within the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Program for the Fall 2026 term. SCPS is dedicated to assisting working adults in completing their degrees and advancing their careers, offering a range of online programs including bachelor’s degree completion, professional certificates, a master’s in public safety, and other career accelerators. The specific course to be taught is “ISLS 3000: Transformations - Reading, Thinking, and Communicating in the Liberal Arts." This course aims to enhance students' reading, writing, critical thinking, technology, and research skills essential for college-level success and beyond. It also serves to orient students to the University's culture and the BIS program community, introduce campus resources, provide academic advising, and use the theme of transformation for multi-disciplinary exploration through reading, writing, and discussion.

Requirements

Minimum of a master’s degree or terminal degree in an appropriate field of study.
Commitment to teaching non-traditional students online in asynchronous and synchronous formats.

Nice To Haves

Terminal degree is strongly preferred.
Professional experience in the field is preferred.

Responsibilities

Teach the course “ISLS 3000: Transformations - Reading, Thinking, and Communicating in the Liberal Arts" in asynchronous and synchronous online formats.
Develop students' reading, writing, critical thinking, technology, and research proficiencies.
Orient students to the University's culture and the BIS program community.
Introduce students to campus resources and address academic advising.
Utilize the theme of transformation for multi-disciplinary exploration.
