About The Position

The University of Hawaii Maui College is seeking a Lecturer for the Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) program. This is a part-time, temporary position that may involve teaching during Fall, Spring, and Summer Sessions, including evening, weekend, distance education, television, and off-campus classes at UH Maui College and its outreach sites on Lanai and Molokai. This is not a remote position and requires in-person work.

Requirements

Master’s in Food and Nutrition, Food and Nutritional Science, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Food Science, Nutrition Science, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition-Dietetics, Dietetics, Dietetics and Food Administration
Or Bachelor’s in Food and Nutrition, Food and Nutritional Science, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Food Science, Nutrition Science, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition-Dietetics, Dietetics, Dietetics and Food Administration and three (3) years related work or teaching experience
Or Registered Dietitian (RD) and three (3) years related work or teaching experience
All minimum qualifications must be from an accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment.
Satisfy employment eligibility verification requirements of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
Pass reference checks of previous employers.
Potentially pass criminal history record checks.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to use writing assignments and integrate teaching of appropriate thinking skills into course content as an integral part of students' classroom learning activities.
The ability to apply knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture to effectively collaborate with multicultural groups and individuals from diverse academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Teach assigned courses in the discipline for which one is qualified.
Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
Prepare course syllabi, grading, and reports related to teaching and student progress.
Work under the supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
May include instructional assignments involving distance education.
Other duties as assigned.
