About The Position

This is a part-time, temporary position for the Spring 2027/Summer 2027 academic terms, serving as a lecturer applicant pool. The role is non-tenurial and is contingent upon the availability of funding and actual staffing requirements. The lecturer may be assigned to teach day, evening, or weekend courses on and off-campus, including at Leeward CC - Waianae Moku, local area high schools (pending background clearance), or other satellite campuses. The courses to be taught include a range of Filipino Studies subjects such as FIL 107 (Introduction to Filipino Studies), FIL 253 (Filipino Culture, History and the Arts), FIL 254 (Filipinos in the United States: The History and Culture of Filipinos in the U.S.), and FIL 255 (Contemporary Philippine Issues).

Requirements

  • Master's in Asian Studies with a specialization in Philippine Studies.
  • Master's in Philippine language with at least 9 credits of advanced and/or graduate level coursework or research topic focused on Filipino areas.
  • Master's in Ethnic or American Studies with at least 15 credits of advanced and/or graduate level coursework or research topic focused on Filipino areas.
  • Master's in any Humanities with at least 15 credits of advanced and/or graduate level coursework or research topic focused on Filipino areas.
  • Bachelor's in Ethnic Studies, Asian Studies or Philippine Studies with at least 15 credits of advanced and/or graduate level coursework or research topic focused on Filipino areas and 3 years of related work experience.
  • All minimum qualifications must be from a regionally or nationally accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment.
  • If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience at a community college level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners and communicate clearly.
  • Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
  • Experience teaching in various modalities including in person, online-asynchronous, online-synchronous, and/or hybrid courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  • Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
  • Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  • Work under the supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  • May include instructional assignments involving distance education.
