About The Position

The Department of Bioengineering at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for a Lecturer position. The department is looking to hire an individual who can teach courses related to machine learning, biosensing and biodevices, and innovation. Specific teaching assignments will be made according to the academic qualifications of the individuals and programmatic needs. The candidate will teach an equivalent of >4.5 courses over the academic year (three quarters). Each quarter is 10 weeks long with an 11th week for final examinations. This position starts on September 1, 2026. This position is for in-person instruction.

Requirements

  • Earned a Ph.D. in bioengineering, biophysics, biomechanics, or other relevant fields.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated excellence and commitment in teaching engineering students, with good communication skills.
  • Potential areas of teaching include biomaterials, biomechanics, and biosensors, and other related topics.
  • Availability to teach at the following times: Fall quarter runs 9/21/26 – 12/11/26, including exams. Winter quarter runs 1/4/27 – 3/19/27, including exams. Spring quarter runs 3/29/27 – 6/10/27, including exams.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing for and conducting all assigned class meetings, including associated laboratory sessions
  • Assigning and evaluating student work appropriately
  • Being available to students for consultation outside of class via regular office hours and emails
  • Submitting electronic copies of each syllabus, including approved expected learning outcomes, and examinations to the Bioengineering Department
  • Assigning student grades appropriately and submitting them to the Office of Student Records by the designated deadline
  • Complying with university and school policies, including those delineated in the School of Engineering Term Faculty Handbook
  • Conduct course assessments as required by the department
  • Attending department and school meetings
  • Supporting assessment activities
  • Developing equipment and experiments
