About The Position

The Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning is an internationally acknowledged centre for intellectual, scientific, and creative research. Creatively combining the disciplines of Architecture, Urbanism and Design, we explore how cities, spaces, buildings, technologies, and services can better meet the needs of people and society. Our educators and researchers are experimental, imaginative, and critical, innovating at the boundaries of their disciplines and creating exciting and engaging learning experiences for our students – the global citizens of tomorrow. The School has long valued creative practice and making within its curriculum in a way that enriches architecture and design practice and techniques. Students in many of our degrees have drawing, photography, and ceramics as available subjects. The School’s gallery, Tin Sheds, has an annual program featuring creative work that sits at the intersection between art and architecture practice. We seek to appoint a Lecturer - Art in Architecture and Design Practice (Education Focused), whose work sits at the intersection of contemporary architecture and artistic practice and who has an outstanding record of practice in this area. This role will involve teaching and research that engages in innovative, contemporary modes of making, with a willingness to explore the interface between digital and analogue forms of creative practice. The role involves academic leadership within art and architecture and design education, as well as undertaking research and service within the school and university.

Requirements

  • experience in teaching in art and architecture studios
  • demonstrated ability in undergraduate teaching with experience as a tutor / studio art and architecture teacher, with experience teaching large cohorts an advantage
  • extensive experience as lead tutor / senior studio teacher or equivalent
  • ability to work across different teaching teams
  • demonstrated ability to quality assure your own teaching materials delivery and those of others
  • knowledge of teaching technologies and different ways of supporting student learning, progression and wellbeing
  • a collegial approach and willingness to contribute to academic governance, engagement, and administration
  • tertiary qualifications appropriate to the field and a minimum of 5 years industry experience as a tutor/studio teacher.
  • Australian citizen or a permenant resident to apply.

Responsibilities

  • work as a unit coordinator, in collaboration with program directors and other unit coordinators, to deliver agreed learning outcomes
  • provide excellent teaching in core and elective units of study as a lecturer, tutor and studio teacher
  • develop and update new curriculum material if requested
  • work collaboratively with school strategies to develop the educational skills of tutors and studio teachers as well as ensuring the superior quality of their teaching
  • contribute to the evaluation of student experience and develop strategies to improve education delivery based on feedback and reflection
  • contribute to teaching and learning innovations including work-integrated learning
  • undertake research appropriate to the role.
