About The Position

Washburn University’s Department of Music is seeking applications for a one-year, temporary position in Applied Violin beginning August 1, 2026. This position is a nine-month, full-time appointment. The selected candidate would be eligible to apply for the permanent position. Each selected candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to pursuing teaching excellence at Washburn University, including a dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage all learners.

Requirements

Doctorate in Violin; ABD and master’s degree applicants will be considered.
Demonstrated dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage all learners.
Official educational transcripts required at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

Experience teaching and recruiting students at the university level.
Experience in teaching applied viola and violin.
Experience in teaching and working with youth string programs.
2-years of public-school teaching experience.

Responsibilities

Fulfill teaching expectations associated with non-tenure track appointment. Teach 12-hours per semester (either in-person or online, according to departmental needs) or equivalent full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook. Teaching will include applied violin and viola.
Fulfill service expectations associated with non-tenure track appointment by engaging in service activities in the department, university, and profession.
Recruit students and maintain public profile as a performer and teacher.
Serve as faculty advisor for the Fetter String Quartet.
Teach additional music courses as needed by the department that fit the candidate’s qualifications.
Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
